Jo & David’s Surprise Superheroes Wedding ~ { A Celebration At The Mitre Hotel, Hampton Court}

I just have to share this amazing wedding with you, it’s so totally unlike anything I have ever shot before. I met Jo and David a few months back and it was clear that it wasn’t a case of ‘will’ they book me so much as ‘can you keep a secret’? The couple run a highly successful graphic design consultancy business and are amazingly talented. Just a visit to their home is inspirational and tells you so much about their love of comic culture, colour and design, their wedding reception was never going to be dull!
There was however an additional element to this wedding that made it ultra special, it was a total surprise to friends and family alike. Jo and David have been together for 20 years, according to Jo no one thought they would ever get married. This provided them with the perfect opportunity to throw a surprise wedding. To lure friends and family along to The Mitre Hotel at Hampton Court, they created the smoke screen of an ultra cool ‘Super Heroes’ 40th birthday party. In actual fact the couple had married during a discreet civil ceremony the day before.
The plan was for David to welcome guests, in his super hero costume. After some time he was to start fretting that Jo was taking a long time to get ready. Of course a bride should take as long as she needs, and upstairs  full bridal preparation was in progress.

The scene is set for a fabulous birthday party, little do the guests know that it is actually a wedding reception.

Jo and David chose a delicious selection of vegan cakes by Ms Cupcake, billed as the ‘naughtiest vegan cakes in town’, and they were certainly that, I could have dived right in, Dawn French style.
Upstairs in a top secret room, Jo was having her hair and make up done and was preparing to wear these ubler cool shoes by Kurt Geiger(Miss KG). Perfect for the theme.
The only people who knew the couple were getting married were married friends, one of whom just happens to be a very cool designer goldsmith who made the couple’s rings.
Jo’s stunning vintage brooch bouquet was made by Dee Clarke of Everlasting Bouquets. Dee says; “I incorporated lots of ‘Bling’ to complement Jo’s beautiful dress and personality.”
At last it was time to put on’the dress’ by West London designer Angelina Colarusso.
David comes back to the room to quickly get changed out of his costume and in to his bespoke suit by Gresham Blake. A ‘first look’ like no other!
Mean while their guests were also waiting to see what Super hero costume Jo would be wearing…..
Finally the Toaster Master made his announcement to the crowd, not only were they celebrating a 40th birthday, they were also celebrating Jo and David’s wedding! The reaction from friends and family was amazing and a massive roar went up with people rushing forwards to offer their congratulations.
The bride’s mum got quite a shock!
Party time!
Don’t you just hate it when someone else turns up wearing the same outfit as you?

This couple like to do things their way.

This was a totally unique wedding celebration. Jo and David did things with great style and fun,  and having got to know this lovely couple I wouldn’t have expected it any other way. Congratulations guys, it was a blast, and that is an understatement.
