A Beautiful Late Afternoon Barossa Heathland Engagement Shoot
A couple of days ago I met up with Alexandra and Nick for their pre wedding Barossa heathland engagement shoot, on what should have been their wedding day. Sadly like so many other 2020 couples, the pandemic has meant their wedding plans have had to be put on ice, and a new date arranged. Thank fully they’ve postpone and not cancelled, and I’ve simply moved with them.
There are many reasons for couples choosing a particular date to be married, and I’ve spoken before about the importance and ‘right of passage’ of a wedding day marking the beginning of a couples new life together. Of course it would be easy for these two to be really down about things, but they’re philosophical and upbeat about things and just want to make the best of the situation. So the next best thing to mark the day was to get together and celebrate the day in another way with a relaxed woodland photoshoot. Alexandra even worse a fabulous cheeky little white dress for the shoot.
I’ve feel I’ve really had a chance to get to know the couple and Alexandra in particular, since they came to my house earlier in the year to discuss their wedding plans. We’ve had many back and forth emails about the pandemic, wedding plans, potential new dates, and just discussing this shoot; location, timings, clothes, hair. However getting together for the session really did help us get to know each other more, and for the couple to see how I like to work.
When it came towards the end of the shoot, and the sun was starting to disappear, we all felt we’d had such a good time that we didn’t want it to end! However, I’m so happy with the images we created. The light was to die for (I get very excited about these things), the location just across the road from my house spectacular, and Alexandra and Nick look so relaxed and in love!
For me this was also personally super special. As a wedding photographer this year has been pretty awful, with almost every one of my poor couples having to postpone their wedding. With lockdown and social distancing since March, getting out to do the job that I love has up until now been impossible. Seeing beautiful days and dreamy sunsets come and go when I should have been out shooting has been hard! This shoot, this dreamy light, was everything I needed it to be. I feel in a great place now and can’t wait for more opportunities like this.
