An Intimate Wedding In The Grand Setting Of Westminster Cathedral Followed By A Reception At Beautiful Pembroke Lodge
I recently had the privilege of shooting Kim and Robert’s beautiful wedding at Westminster Cathedral and afterwards in the pretty setting of Pembroke Lodge in Richmond Park. After nearly 15 years of capturing weddings, it’s still so exciting to be able to work in a new setting, especially when it’s as grand as Westminster Cathedral.
However, before the ceremony, I began photographic cover at the couple’s home in South London before travelling to the Cathedral with Kim and her Dad. As a visual storyteller, I love being able to stay close to a bride on her day, it enables me to capture those moments i might otherwise miss. The excitement and anticipation, and then the relief and joy when all has gone to plan and the bride and groom travel on the their reception.
For this wedding, I relied on detailed conversation with Kim and Robert as well as internet research to prepare for shooting in the cathedral. However that didn’t prepare me for how stunning it was inside. Despite the resemblance to the basilicas of Rome, I have learnt that the cathedral was only completed in 1903. The architect (John Francis Bentley) created his interpretation of Byzantine- Christian architecture, and Kim and Robert’s wedding ceremony was held in the smaller Lady Chapel, a glistening beautiful place for worship perfect for their intimate wedding.
Following the ceremony and some relaxed and candid photographs on the steps of the cathedral from the piazza, I travelled with the couple on to Pembroke Lodge. Then whilst gusts made their way, we took a relaxed walk into the grounds of the Lodge for some intimate portraits. The Rose Garden and views of the Richmond Park in the sun provided a completely dreamy backdrop, and I was very happy to have had this time alone with Kim and Robert before celebrations officially kicked off.
Following drink on the South Lawn, and group shots beneath the splendid Wisteria (in full bloom) at the front of the lodge, everyone made their way up to the Russell Suite for cake cutting, speeches, and of course the wedding breakfast. Then later followed dancing! A brilliant end to an epic day.
