“A Knees-up full of musical delights, frocks & frolics.”
Adam and Katrina’s Burgh House wedding day was a veritable feast of huge personalities, great humour and emotion, heaps of love, and jam packed to the brim with an eclectic mix of fabulous music.
Here is a couple assured of their style, and the day reflected this from the start with an art deco flavour and a brilliant burst of hot saucy red. Katrina looked immense in a bespoke silk frock by Rebecca Street at Browns Bride. Her accent colour worked so perfectly with her style. I adored her red lips and flawless complexion, and when I clapped eyes on her Miu Miu clutch and amazing Charlotte Olympia shoes ( design +amazing feat of engineering + RED = heaven), well I had a complete moment which took a little while to recover from. 😉
I began the day by joining Katrina at the The Covent Garden Hotel where Mariam Jensen was putting the final touches to her makeup. It was wonderful to see her parents expressions as they viewed their daughter in her wedding dress for the first time, and later an enormous privilege to travel by cab with Katrina on to Burgh House and Adam awaiting his ‘first look’.
The couple wanted to avoid all the usual wedding cliches and chose to welcome their guests together before the ceremony which was a wonderful idea and maximized the amount of time they got to spend with everyone. As a special surprise, guest soprano and Katrina, who is an accomplished jazz singer and also operatically trained, serenaded the wedding party with a most perfect rendition of ‘Sull’Aria’ from ‘The Marriage Of Figaro’!
As Adam hails from Australia, many guests had travelled a great distance to be with the couple, some arriving just that morning. I loved the atmosphere created by the coming together of families, friends and work colleagues, it was really buzzing. I also loved the red Gladioli that gave a nod to the Antipodean element! Again just the right pop of colour.
This really was a brilliant wedding to photograph and I am so happy to have met Katrina and Adam. If music really is the food of love, this couples love is set to just play on and on…. 😉
Before guests arrived Katrina rehearsed her duet along with string quartet Liquid Strings. The couple would later invite audience participation with a hearty rendition of ‘The Bare Necessities’, which quite frankly I felt I had to join in with. Ironically the ceremony room at Burgh House is the Music Room, just perfect for the couple’s day.
Later on outside, the thunderbolts and lightning may have been very very frightening, but inside the party was rocking to some string quartet karaoke which included yes, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’. Alright alright, I couldn’t resist it OK?! 🙂
