A Rainy Summer Country Wedding
Hannah and Matt married on possibly the wettest rainy day of the Summer this year. Yes it was wet, but it was also fabulous!
We Brits are completely obsessed with the weather aren’t we? We moan when it’s too hot, moan when it’s too cold. When we can’t think of anything to talk about we talk about the weather. We secretly love a bit of extreme weather, and we expect our Summers to be like those of our childhood with weeks of certain sunshine (least in our memories anyway).
However there is no greater time to be obsessed with weather forecasts than those few days leading up to a wedding day. Lord knows we photographers do it (and have even been known to check different forecasts if the first we didn’t like), so it’s only natural that a bride and groom would want the perfect day. In practical terms we all hope for the best, and plan for the worst!
The fact is, there is nothing you can do to ensure that perfect sunny day. You can book an Autumn wedding and have wonderful sun, you can book a December wedding and be blessed with a cold crisp snowy day, then again you can book a Summer wedding and sadly get a total washout.
What I really want to say about all this is that the weather does not make or break your big day. Your wedding day is about you two, your friends and family, and a huge celebration. The worst storm cannot change that. It’s all about attitude.
I always say to my couples whatever the weather, it’s part of your story. Yes a dry sunny day is good, but you mustn’t let something you have absolutely no control over control your emotions on the day. Focus on what’s important. Everybody you invite is rooting for you and wishing you well. Immerse yourself in all that love and good feeling.
Take a look at Hannah and Matt’s wedding. Just look at their faces. Look at their friends and family’s faces. It is a joyous occasion. Everyone is having a fantastic time. The weather is what I would describe as ‘very wet indeed’, but it all forms part of the story of the day. Never let a bit of drizzle stand in the way of a jazz band and Champers on the lawn. We are British, we shall not let the weather beat us!
I love this wedding, it was so much fun to capture (despite my sodden feet). Thank you Hannah and Matt for making me so welcome. I’m actually rather looking forward to the next wet wedding, or perhaps a tornado or snowstorm. 🙂
