Ali And Alex’s Rustic Woodland Wedding At Wilderness Wood
Ali and Alex married in the Catholic church of St Thomas of Canterbury at Mayfield back at the end of August. They celebrated their nuptials with great flare in the rather magical woodland surroundings of Wilderness Wood, Hadlow Down in East Sussex. It really was a brilliant day and loads of fun to shoot. I guess I would describe this wedding as rustic, stylish and fun and a real favourite from 2014.
I began my coverage at a really sweet guest house in Lower Crabb, and there was no shortage of ‘beings’ to photographs, including a pair of rather distracting hounds.
Alex was just in the process of having her hair swept into a wonderfully relaxed and stylish ‘up-do’ by hairdresser Sharon Roberts, before some final perfecting touches to her makeup from Tania Stephenson Oliver.
The little guest house was full of energetic last minute preparations with much of the bride’s family there to share the excitement and of course her bridesmaid and bridesman were there and fully attentive.
Oh and check out those flowers, that clever Bloomingayles did it again! I think my first image sums up the day perfectly.
I loved this wedding. It was different and very unique. I want to shoot more different and unique weddings in 2015!!!

I was introduced to Ali and Alex by previous bride and friend of mine Carolanne. The couple had been at Carolanne’s wedding and booked me soon afterwards. The more I heard about their wedding plans the more excited I became. A woodland reception, a jazz band, hog roast, Ali’s homemade multi tiered nudy cake, a Ceilidh, and raspberry Tequila marshmallows toasted over fire.
TV producer Ali had lots of ideas about their photography and I welcomed his ideas. I had a clear brief to capture not just the food, but guests enjoying it. This was easy as the food was plentiful and looked great, and we all know that eating in the great outdoors gives you a hearty appetite. As well as this, there were so many great details and spontaneous happy moments, and what a magical location!
